Services We Provide
Nonprofit Formation & Compliance
We advise clients looking to engage in the political process on the organizational structure best suited to achieve their missions and goals. Our services include assisting clients with formation and obtaining tax-exempt status with the Internal Revenue Service and the Franchise Tax Board and registration with the Office of Attorney General.
We also advise clients on their ongoing programs and activities, assisting them with the applicable registration and reporting obligations and establishing best practices and procedures to prevent them from jeopardizing their tax-exempt status.
For organizations whose tax-exempt status has been revoked, we assist them with applying for reinstatement.
Campaign Finance Compliance & Disclosure
We provide clients with guidance on the complex campaign finance laws at the federal, state and local levels. Our services include preparation of campaign disclosure reports and advising political campaigns on fundraising rules, disclosure and disclaimer requirements for public and member communications, and disclosure requirements associated with independent expenditure campaigns.
Enforcement and Audits
We advise and represent clients with enforcement matters and audits conducted by the Federal Elections Commission (FEC), Fair Political Practices Commission (FPPC), the Franchise Tax Board, the Los Angeles City Ethics Commission and other local agencies.
We also assist clients with preparing for audits by identifying compliance issues and providing guidance on corrective measures along with the potential enforcement exposure associated with those issues. Most importantly, we work with clients to create and establish best practices going forward to promote compliance with the applicable laws.
Treasury and Bookkeeping Services
We provide clients with in-house treasury and bookkeeping services. Our services include:
